A woman has been arrested for harassing and threatening to kill famed One Piece mangaka Eiichiro Oda.
The apparent stalker, an unemployed 27-year-old woman, was said to have repeatedly sent Oda threatening emails, admonishing him to “die!” and similar.
She was said to have sent hundreds of such messages from September to December 2007, before Oda filed a report and an investigation was launched. She admits the charges.
The messages were seemingly prompted by the dismissal of the lady’s husband, a former assistant at Oda’s office.
Her precise motivation is unclear; possibly she was merely protective of her husband or his income, or perhaps she was unhappy at him no longer being one of the staff for so successful a publication.
