A housewife has been prosecuted for accessing her friend’s MMORPG account and stripping her character of items for sale online.
Last October, the lady (22) apparently somehow secured the log-on and password to an online acquaintance’s (a 29-year-old lady apparently known only virtually) MMORPG account.
According to police, the game operates a system “where players can enjoy themselves equipping hats and clothing”, and of course there are rare items.
Seeing that her friend had plenty of nice gear, the housewife accessed her account on six occasions to strip the character of items, which she then took and sold online.
She apparently managed a total of 45 items, selling them all for a total of some ¥50,000.
She has been charged with unauthorised access to a computer system.
She admits to the heinous act, explaining “I wanted some money I could freely use myself.”
We do not hear the game in question’s name, nor an explanation for why things took so long.
